Pensacola Pelicans News Release

I wanted to catch up with everyone and let you know how the Pelicans have turned around their season if you have not been following. After staring the season in last place (5-12) they have jumped to first (22-15) in two weeks, the Pelicans have a 2 game lead in the East Division and are knocking on the play-off door. The month of June has been a great month for the Pelicans, winning 12 of 13 games played. The Pelicans have also won 18 of their last 21 games. The Pelicans are now leading the league, hitting .297 and have 8 starters hitting over .300. 3 of the top 4 hitters in the league are Pelicans ( Josey Shannon .395, Andy Wilson .367, Mike Rodriguez .358, Carlos Mendoza .330). Josh Kranawetter leads the league with his 1.88 ERA and was also Pitcher of the Week last week. The Pelicans pitching staff is second in the league with a 3.94 ERA. Hitter, Josey Shannon has been on fire as of late and is at the top of several categories: 1st in average, 4th in RBI (31), 1st in hits (51), 3rd in slugging % (.605), 3rd in extra base hits (16). George Branch is 2nd in HR (9) and 2nd in slugging % (.652). Andy Wilson just ended a 26 game hitting streak which was best in professional baseball.

In addition to baseball we continue to work with area agencies. Saturday night a young man from Arkansas was at the game with his family sponosred by the Make a Wish Foundation. Though on very bad health, when one of the players gave him a ball, you could see a slight grin and observe fingers squeezing the baseball. Also that night a challenged young man both mentally and physically in a wheelchair won the dance contest from fans cheering the loudest for the winner.
