Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX - (Friday, December 15, 2006) - Less than 24 hours after its kickoff, the wheels of the Dynamo Player Development System have started rolling, with the presentation of Walberto "Pana" Vazquez as the first Houstonian to be selected to participate.
Accompanied by his parents, high school and club team coach during his presentation, Vasquez is now part of the Dynamo's Player Development System's U-18 team. Currently a senior at Cy Falls High School, Vazquez plays as an attacking midfielder/forward. At a club level, he plays for the Houstonians, and has been a part of the South Texas Olympic Development Program for the last 5 years as well as a part of the Region 3 Olympic Development Program.
"I feel blessed to have the opportunity to grow and develop as a player as a member of the Dynamo. I will now focus all my energy on improving and hopefully sometime making the Dynamo First Team", said Vazquez.
"I feel we've made a good selection by bringing Walberto on board. He possesses all the qualities necessary to develop a long career, which will hopefully be with the Dynamo", said Dynamo Director of Youth Development James Clarkson.
In addition, the Dynamo has also added Mario Perez as the first "out of boundary" player to join the academy. Perez, 15, is from Brownsville, TX, and plays center midfielder for Porter High School and the Border Bandits club team in McAllen.
The Houston Dynamo Player Development System (DPDS), in partnership with the South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA), will become one of the elite youth development programs in all of America. This system will provide area youth soccer players with a platform to develop their skills and a direct "path to the pros."
