Houston Dynamo Host W Connection Tonight in Crucial CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage Match

Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON (Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013) - The Houston Dynamo will meet Trinidadian side W Connection at 7 p.m. CT tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium in a CONCACAF Champions League group stage game. Tickets are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com, by calling 713-276-GOAL, or at the stadium ticket office (2200 Texas St., Houston).

Tonight is the third of four group stage contests for the Dynamo. Houston (1-0-1; 4 points) currently trails Árabe Unido (2-1-0; 6 points) by two points in Group 1 having played one fewer game. A win tonight would vault the Dynamo to the top of the group with one game remaining - a trip to Panama to face Árabe Unido on Oct. 24. Should Houston win tonight, a win or tie by any score in that match would make the Dynamo the Group 1 winner, which also guarantees a spot in the tournament's quarterfinals, to take place in spring, 2014.

Tonight's game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 2 and Univision Deportes Network 2 (Spanish). There will be no radio broadcasts.

The Dynamo and W Connection (0-2-1; 1 point) squared off on Aug. 20 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago playing to a 0-0 draw. The Dynamo followed the road draw with a 2-1 home win over Árabe Unido on Aug. 27 behind two goals from Cam Weaver.

W Connection is comprised mostly of players from the Caribbean, including 13 from Trinidad and Tobago. Founded in 1986, the club has won four TT Pro League titles and three CFU Club championships, the annual club competition for Caribbean teams.

This is the third Champions League appearance for W Connection. The Savonetta Boys qualified for the 2013-14 Champions League by winning the 2011-12 TT Pro League, which qualified it for the 2013 CFU Club Championship this spring. It won its group at the CFU Club Championship to reach the Champions League.

The Savonetta Boys are off to a flying start in the new TT Pro League season. The club is 2-0 and has outscored its opponents 8-0, including a 7-0 win over St. Ann's Rangers on Sept. 14, with defender Kurt Frederick scoring a hat trick.

The last TT Pro season concluded in May and W Connection finished in third place. Trinidad and Tobago international Joevin Jones was the club's leading scorer, with 10 goals, tied for third in the league.

Following tonight's game, the Dynamo resume MLS play and their battle for a playoff spot with a road tilt against the New England Revolution on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT from Gillette Stadium. Houston will return home to host the Montreal Impact on Friday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium, in a match presented by Houston Methodist.
