Real Salt Lake News Release

RSL TO GO ON THE ROAD SATURDAY TO TAKE ON VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC

Real Salt Lake (14-10-6, West #2) will be on the road Saturday night when they face Vancouver Whitecaps FC (11-10-8, West #6) at 5:00 p.m. MT at BC Place. Saturday's match will be broadcast live on CW30, Univision, ESPN700 and 102.3 La Gran D FM/1600 AM. CW30 will air the 30-minute Ford Postgame Show immediately after the match; ESPN700 will air an hour-long pregame show before the game and will broadcast an hour-long postgame following the contest.

RSL is coming off back-to-back losses to Seattle Sounders FC on Sept. 13 and San Jose Earthquakes on Sept. 21. The consecutive losses saw the team slip into second place in the Western Conference and Supporters' Shield race with 48 points. A win against Vancouver on Saturday would provide RSL with an opportunity to retake the lead in both races.

RSL is 4-2-1 in MLS regular season matches against Vancouver Whitecaps FC all-time. This is the final meeting between the teams this season, with RSL posting a 1-0-1 record against the Canadian side this year. RSL drew Vancouver 1-1 on April 13 at BC Place, and won 2-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium on May 4. The Claret-and-Cobalt has never won at BC Place.

RSL TO HOST 100TH LAMAR HUNT US OPEN CUP FINAL NEXT TUESDAY AGAINST DC

Real Salt Lake is set to host D.C. United in the 100th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final at 7:00 p.m. MT at Rio Tinto Stadium next Tuesday, Oct. 1. Real Salt Lake advanced through the tournament with four consecutive wins at home, defeating lower-division clubs the Atlanta Silverbacks 3-2 on May 28, the Charleston Battery 5-2 on June 12 and the Carolina RailHawks 3-0 on June 26 before downing Western Conference foe the Portland Timbers 2-1 in front of a record crowd in the tournament's semifinals on Aug. 7.

Tuesday's Open Cup final gives RSL an opportunity to win its first trophy of the season and first-ever Open Cup title. D.C. United has won the tournament twice, first in 1996 and again in 2008. The winner of the U.S. Open Cup final will automatically qualify for the 2014/2015 edition of CONCACAF Champions League.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in the United States, dating back to 1914. The Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament that is open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the U.S.

Tickets are still available for Tuesday's Open Cup action and can be purchased at the Rio Tinto Stadium box office, online at www.RealSaltLake.com/Tickets or over the phone at 801-727-2700.

RSL FALLS TO THE SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 2-1 IN FRONT OF A SOLD-OUT RIO TINTO STADIUM

Real Salt Lake fell to the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 at a sold-out Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night, allowing two goals from FW Steven Lenhart in the space of three minutes in the first half to drop its second straight match.

All three goals came within a three minute span in the first half, with Lenhart putting the Quakes on top in the 18th, RSL MF Javier Morales equalizing in the 19th and Lenhart scoring the winner in the 21st.

RSL had the majority of possession for the rest of the game, keeping the ball in San Jose's defensive third for long stretches and frequently pushing the ball out wide for crosses - and corners - into the box. Unfortunately, the Claret-and-Cobalt couldn't quite break down San Jose's compact defense, falling at home for just the third time this season.

RIO TINTO STADIUM TO HOST REAL CUP GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

Real Salt Lake will welcome four UHSAA Girls Soccer Teams to Rio Tinto Stadium this weekend for the second annual Real Cup Girls High School soccer tournament. The tournament will begin this Friday, Sept. 27, when Sandy's Alta High School will take on Draper's Juan Diego Catholic High School at 3:00 p.m. The Alta-Juan Diego match will be followed by a 6:00 p.m. game between Sandy's Jordan High School and Logan's Sky View High School. The four teams will reconvene at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, September 28, with the losers of Friday's matches facing off in the Consolation game at 1:00 p.m. before the Championship match at 4:00 p.m.

Tickets for each day of the Real Cup will cost $5 for students and $8 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the Rio Tinto Stadium box office (open 10 a.m.-6 p.m.) or over the phone at 801-727-2700.

REAL SALT LAKE U-16S & U-18S OUTSCORE SAN JUAN SOCCER CLUB 10-0 IN SEASON

The Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy U-16 & U-18 squads opened up the U.S. Soccer Development season with a statement last weekend, with the defending national champion U-16's downing San Juan Soccer Club 9-0 and the U-18's posting a 1-0 victory.

The U-16s, with nine returning players from last year's championship winning team, wasted no time and scored early and often in a 9-0 victory, which set a new Academy high of most goals in a season opener and most goals in a match. Last season's U-16 leader in goals scored, Sebastian Saucedo picked up a single goal while teammates Josh Doughty and Diego "Diablo" Silva added a pair. Newcomers Grant Livingston, Tate Schmitt, Daniel Lee and Fahot Yogol notched their first Academy goals.

Their older counterparts were not able to cruise to an easy victory as they were tested by a tough San Juan Soccer Club side for 90 minutes. However, the U-18s eventually got the better of San Juan, as senior Santi Carrillo scored the lone goal off of a corner with a bicycle kick in the 92nd minute.

Both teams will be back in action against the Chivas USA and LA Galaxy Academies on Oct. 4th and 5th in Los Angeles.

FOUR RSL ACADEMY PLAYERS CALLED UP TO US U-18 CAMP

Four Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy players were recently called up to a U.S. U-18 national team camp in preparation for a U-18 tournament in Limoges, France next month. DF Justen Glad, MF Corey Baird, FW Brooks Lennon and FW Sebastian Saucedo were among the 36 players called into the Carson, Calif. camp, which began on Sunday and will run through Sept. 29.

The four Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy players called represented the most players called from any one academy into the camp. The U-18 tournament in Limoges, France begins on Oct. 6 and goes through Oct. 14.
