Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo Football Club announced Houston native Jordy Reyes as the second eMLS athlete in Club history this afternoon.
Reyes, who grew up in Alief, grew up attending Dynamo matches at Robertson Stadium with his parents and dreaming of one day playing in the Club's famous orange shirts and names Brian Ching as his all-time favorite player for the Club. Now the 20-year-old gets his chance, thanks to his exploits on XBOX rather than on the pitch.
"I've been following the Club ever since I was a little kid, ever since the Robertson Stadium days," he said. "I would look down at the players on the field and think, 'Hey, I want to be here one day.' Maybe I couldn't be here as a professional player, but I'm here now as a professional FIFA player. I'm not only representing the Club, I'm also representing my hometown. It adds a little bit of extra motivation, for sure."
Reyes competes primarily on PlayStation under the gamertag JordyReyes. He will stream matches on the Club's Twitch channel, HoustonDynamo. He will make his eMLS debut for the Club in the 2021 eMLS season.
He builds his teams from the back line forward, emphasizing a strong defense that sets him up to hit opponents on the counterattack.
"I like to make sure I'm compact through the back. I feel like defense wins championships, so I work a lot on my defense," he said. "I love to play counterattack football, play quick one-two's, quick counters, and I love to get up the pitch as soon as I can."
Still an avid fan of the Club, Reyes now hopes to cover the Dynamo and Dash as a sports journalist when he finishes college. Club supporters can look for him in the press box on match days and will be able to read his insights and observations throughout the year on HoustonDynamoFC.com and HoustonDash.com.
Reyes, whose parents are Honduran, spent plenty of nights cheering on Los Catrachos at Robertson and BBVA Stadium, with particular interest current and former Dynamo stars like Boniek GarcÃÂa, Alberth Elis and Maynor Figueroa. He has also become a fan of the Houston Dash and, like all Dash fans, fell in love with this year's team during their NWSL Challenge Cup run.
