Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022) - Houston is a city of many nicknames, perhaps none of which is more deserved than the Bayou City. Eleven different bayous run through Houston, and their impact on the city is a profound one.
The bayous, and the role they play in the city, served as the inspiration for the new Houston Dynamo FC alternate jersey, dubbed the Bayou City Kit. The intertwined nature of the bayous means that they help connect every Houstonian together, just as the Dynamo strive to do, and this jersey aims to reflect those relationships.
From their vital role in flood prevention to giving a home for Houston's surprisingly diverse wildlife to serving as a source of fun and recreation for so many Houstonians, H-Town truly would not be the city it is without our bayou system. Everyone in Houston can likely identify their neighborhood by its proximity to the nearest bayou, and when it rains every eye in the city turns to the bayous to gauge the severity of a storm.
The kit builds upon the tribute to Houston's bayous that began with the debut of the team's new crest in 2020. The channels in the H-D monogram within the crest were inspired by Houston's bayou system, while the six-sided design was inspired in part by Houston's original city layout that included six wards.
Fans can purchase their own Bayou City Kit now at MLSstore.com or at the Dynamo Team Store at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The store will be open until 9:30 p.m. tonight and from 11am-4pm CST Thursday through Saturday.
For this alternate jersey, which complements the Dynamo's iconic orange primary kit, is a departure from previous Dynamo shirts with still prominently featured orange. In this year's design, Championship Silver takes on a larger focus while the irregular tone-on-tone pattern on the jersey front imitates the flow of water along the bayous reflected in the moonlight.
The silver embellishments on the shoulders are meant to serve as a reminder of the Dynamo's championship pedigree, the Club's commitment to excellence and an embrace of the belief that winning silverware should be the expectation for this team year-in and year-out.
For the fourth year in a row, the chest of the jersey features The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. MD Anderson has been an integral part of the Houston community for more than 80 years and is known as one of the world's most respected centers focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. In 2019 MD Anderson became the first cause-focused jersey sponsor of an MLS team and a year later extended their relationship to include the Houston Dash.
The Dynamo will debut the Bayou City Kit on Opening Day when they host Real Salt Lake at PNC Stadium on February 27. Fans that want to purchase tickets to that game can do so at HoustonDynamoFC.com/Tickets.
