Houston Dynamo FC News Release
Houston Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley was named to the United States Men's National Team (USMNT) roster for the Americans' upcoming round of matches, U.S. Soccer announced today.
Beasley will join the national team following tonight's Dynamo match at FC Dallas (7 p.m. CDT; FOX Sports 1). The USMNT will face Venezuela in a friendly on Saturday, June 3 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Salt Lake City as a warm-up for a pair of crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches against Trinidad & Tobago on Thursday, June 8 in Commerce City, Colorado and at Mexico on Sunday, June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
Beasley, 35, is one of the most decorated players in American soccer history and is the only man to represent the United States at the FIFA World Cup four times. His 11 appearances at the World Cup are tied for second-most in U.S. history.
He has been capped 124 times for the U.S. Men's National Team with 17 goals, and has displayed remarkable longevity at the international level, having represented his country in at least one match in 16 of the last 17 years. His 124 caps are the fifth-most in U.S. Soccer history; and he ranks eighth in assists, with 13, and is tied for ninth all-time in goals scored.
Beasley has played in 33 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches and has scored six goals in qualifiers. He most recently participated in the January U.S. Men's National Team training camp and earned his 124th cap against Jamaica on February 3.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana native has played in and started 72 MLS regular-season games since joining the Dynamo in 2014. This season, he has played in 10 games with nine starts and has worn the captain' armband in four games. Last season, he started 24 games for the club and scored one goal on the year, a right-footed effort following a quick counterattack at Vancouver on May 28.
