Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC found victory over LA Galaxy 3-0 on Saturday night, earning their third consecutive shutout victory at Shell Energy Stadium to start the season.
The Dynamo took the lead in the 35th minute after forward Corey Baird won a foul outside the box. Captain Héctor Herrera took the ensuing free kick and beat the Galaxy goalkeeper at the far post for his second goal of the season.
The Dynamo doubled their lead in the 65th minute after they were awarded a penalty kick for a foul on midfielder Adalberto "Coco" Carrasquilla inside the box. Forward Amine Bassi converted from the penalty spot for his fourth goal of the season and has scored in four consecutive games. He is the first Dynamo player to score in four consecutive games since Alberth Elis reached that mark in 2019. The 25-year-old is also the first player in MLS history to convert a penalty kick in four consecutive games.
Bassi tallied his second goal of the game minutes later following a pass from Baird toward the top of the box. The 25-year-old beat the Galaxy goalkeeper at the near post and earned Man of the Match honors for his performance.
The first shot of the game came in the opening minute off the right foot of midfielder Carrasquilla. His effort was blocked, but the Panamanian international finished with three shots on the night.
Houston won a series of corner kicks following a blocked header from forward Iván Franco in the 13th minute. The Dynamo finished with four corner kicks in the first half.
The Galaxy was initially awarded a penalty kick in the 23rd minute but the call was overturned following a video review of the alleged foul.
Herrera just missed the top corner of the far post in the 41st minute after he dribbled past a defender at the top of the box to create space for his shot. The Mexican international finished with one goal and three shots.
Dejan Joveljić forced a save in the 43rd minute, the first attempt on frame for the visitors. Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark was well positioned to quell the danger and finished with three saves on the night.
Houston's first opportunity of the second half came in the 56th minute off the left foot of Franco. Bassi found the 22-year-old outside the box, he cut inside to create space for a shot that just missed the inside of the far post.
The Dynamo return to the East Coast next weekend when they face the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and fans can listen to the match live in English on ESPN 97.5 or in Spanish on TUDN Radio Houston 93.3 FM.
