Houston Dash News Release

HOUSTON - (Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016) - The Houston Dash have acquired an international roster spot in 2017, 2018 and the No. 15 overall draft pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft from the Boston Breakers in a trade for D Allysha Chapman, the club announced today.

"These decisions are always difficult, but we see a need to modify our roster as we prepare for 2017," head coach Randy Waldrum said. "Allysha was a great ambassador for the organization and her country in the community and we wish her good luck in Boston."

Chapman, 27, played in 14 NWSL contests since joining the Dash in 2015, starting 12. The defender appeared in eight games last season, but missed time due to international play. Chapman and FW Janine Beckie won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Additionally, the defender was a member of the Canadian National Team that won the 2016 Algarve Cup, the first in program history.

With the trade, the Dash will have six international roster spots in 2017. Currently, FW Rachel Daly, MF Denise O'Sullivan and D Poliana are the only international players under contract with the club. Additionally, Houston will have two selections - currently the 15th and 33rd overall pick - in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. The draft pick acquired from Boston was originally transferred from the Chicago Red Stars in a trade in July. Should Chicago acquire the 13th or 14th overall draft pick, that selection would go to Houston as the Dash will receive the lower of the two Red Stars 2017 second-round draft picks available to Boston at the draft.
