Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dash announced today that Sam Laity will vacate his role as the head coach of the team. An interim head coach will be named in the coming days.
"We have high ambitions and continuously work to build a competitive team that will represent the city at a high level. After considerable evaluation as to what is best for the team at this time, we made the decision to make a change," Dash general manager, Alex Singer said. "On behalf of the Club, community, and our team, I want to thank Sam for his dedication and contributions to our organization. We sincerely wish him all the best."
Laity finished with a 4-6-8 (WLD) record in the regular season and the team currently sits in 10th place in the league table. The team finished with a 2-4-0 (WLD) record in the 2023 UKG NWL Challenge Cup.
Laity was named the head coach on Dec. 21, 2022, after more than a decade as an assistant coach with OL Reign in Seattle. He joined the team following their first appearance in the NWSL playoffs in 2022. More than 21,000 fans attended the match in downtown Houston against the KC Current.
The Dash roster features six players that recently competed at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Among them is Andressa Alves, one of 14 new players to join the Dash for the 2023 season. The roster also includes veterans like the captain of the Austrian Women's National Team, Sarah Puntigam, and rising playmakers like the 2022 NWSL Rookie of the Year, Diana Ordóñez.
The Dash return to league play on Sept. 15 when they travel to Kentucky to face Racing Louisville FC at 6:30 p.m. CT. This is the first of a two-game road trip and the Dash returns to Shell Energy Stadium on Oct. 8 to host Angel City FC.
