Houston Dash Invite Fans to Pick the Kit for Season Opener
April 14, 2016 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dash are inviting their fans, and everyone in Houston, to help pick which uniform combination the team should wear in its season opener.
The Dash open the 2016 NWSL season at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, April 16 against the Chicago Red Stars at BBVA Compass Stadium. Dash Season Ticket Memberships are available beginning at $137 for 10 home games, plus an exclusive match to be announced. Individual tickets for Saturday's home opener start at $15. Fans may purchase full-season memberships or individual game tickets online at HoustonDashSoccer.com, by phone at 713-276-GOAL or at the BBVA Compass Stadium ticket office.
The Dash unveiled their new away kit, or uniform, today in a ceremony at the BBVA Compass River Oaks branch and announced the "Pick The Kit" contest during the event. Fans are encouraged to visit HoustonDashSoccer.com and cast their vote for which uniform they want to see the team wear on Saturday night.
Votes will be accepted until 10 a.m. CDT on Saturday. Fans will find out which jersey the team will wear when they take the field Saturday evening.
Media members are encouraged to weigh in with their picks as well, either through your news outlets or your own social media channels, using #PickTheKit.
The new alternate kit features a two-tone jersey showcasing a stylish transition from the club's traditional and instantly recognizable orange at the top to the Space City Blue alternate color above the waist. A series of inverted chevrons alternate orange and blue to make the transition between the two dominant color blocks. The shorts and socks are each Space City Blue, as is the back of the jersey. BBVA Compass, the team's jersey sponsor, is featured with its logo across the chest on the jersey.
The Dash unveiled their home uniform earlier this year on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, February 3. The home jersey features multiple shades of orange which gradually darkens from the white shoulders down to an orange midsection. Longtime Houstonians may notice a resemblance to the Astros' "rainbow" jerseys from the 1980s. The home kit pairs that jersey with orange shorts and socks.
The Dash enter their third season in the National Women's Soccer League and are looking to earn their first playoff berth. The team finished in fifth place last season, missing the final playoff spot by six points. The top four teams at the end of the season qualify for the NWSL playoffs. The NWSL Final will take place at a designated venue that will be announced at a later date.
On the field, the Dash are led by reigning FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Carli Lloyd. Lloyd won the Golden Boot as the most valuable player at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, famously scoring a hat trick in the United States' 5-2 victory over Japan in the final. She and fellow US Women's National Team star Morgan Brian will join five Dash teammates at this summer's Olympic Games in Rio. Andressa and Poliana will represent the host nation, Brazil, while Janine Beckie and Alyssha Chapman will compete for Canada and Lydia Williams will play for Australia.
