Houston Dash News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dash closed a two-game homestand with a 1-1 draw against the Kansas City Current at Shell Energy Stadium earlier today.

Forward Michelle Alozie scored the equalizer and her second goal of the season in the 67th minute. Alozie dispossessed a Kansas City player in the opposing half and then proceeded to dribble the ball to the top of the 18-yard box. The Nigeran international then took the right-footed shot to secure a point for the Dash at home.

Kansas City scored the opening goal of the match in the 51st minute after midfielder Lo LaBonta capitalized on a clearance that fell to her outside the box. LoBonta's one-touch finish found the top corner of the far post.

Houston's first chance of the night came in the 11th minute when midfielder Joelle Anderson found forward Ebony Salmon in the box for the first of four chances created by Anderson. The cross was headed toward the goal but went over the crossbar.

Salmon nearly assisted on a goal in the 19th minute after the Englishwoman crossed the ball into the box between the legs of a Kansas City defender. Forward María Sánchez was on the receiving end of the cross and the Mexican international was just a half step behind the ball.

Goalkeeper Jane Campbell made the first save of the night in the 23rd minute after Kansas City's CeCe Kizer was able to get on the end of a ball that was crossed into the box. Campbell, who was at the near post, was able to extend her frame going toward the opposite direction to make the stop.

Campbell was called into action again in the 37th minute when Kansas City's Elizabeth Ball was fed the ball for a header. Campbell leapt off her feet to make a diving one-handed save to keep the score even. Campbell would finish the night with seven saves.

Midfielder Sophie Schmidt nearly scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute of the match. The Canadian international took a shot from outside the 18-yard box and just narrowly missed the inside of the near post.

Campbell made a save in the final moments of the match to keep the game level at one. The Dash shot stopper was quick to deny LaBonta from point-blank range in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
