NJ/NY Gotham FC News Release

HARRISON, NJ - When Gotham FC comes home to Red Bull Arena this weekend, the club will celebrate the proud return of FIFA Women's World Cup players one day after Messi appears on the same field and just a few days Gotham FC announced the exciting signing of World Cup champion Esther González of Spain.

WELCOME BACK WORLD CUP PLAYERS

Gotham FC will host Racing Louisville on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Red Bull Arena (5:30 p.m. ET, Paramount+), featuring a combined 12 returning Women's World Cup players from seven different countries across both teams.

As Esther prepares to join Gotham FC, she will complement the club's six returning players from the international stage, including Kristie Mewis (USA), Kelley O'Hara (USA), Lynn Williams (USA), Bruninha (Brazil), Sinead Farrelly (Ireland), and Ifeoma "Ify" Onumonu (Nigeria). Racing Louisville will return Alex Chidiac (Australia), Ary Borges (Brazil), Wang Shuang (China), Uchenna Kanu (Nigeria), and Savannah DeMelo (USA).

Approaching the match, Gotham FC sits in fourth place in NWSL standings with 25 points, while Louisville sits in eighth with 20 points, and the home side will be looking to return to victory after its three-match unbeaten streak was broken last week in San Diego.

GOTHAM FC & NY LIBERTY CREATE FIRST NWSL-WNBA COLLAB

Gotham FC and New York Liberty have joined forces to present a first-of-its-kind NWSL-WNBA collaboration. This landmark partnership unites the two leagues while amplifying the spirit of women's empowerment and women supporting each other. The collaboration centers around a t-shirt featuring the tagline Pass Her The Torch, accompanied by an image of the torch itself - a mutual emblem representing Gotham FC and the Liberty - symbolizing the unwavering commitment of both teams to illuminate the accomplishments of women, within the local community and on a global scale.

The graphic is a nod to the prints of the late 1960s and early 1970s when the women's rights movement was emerging. CarMax, official partner of Gotham FC, the Liberty, NWSL, and WNBA, proudly showcases its logo on the sleeve as a testament to its continued commitment to supporting women's sports.

Pass Her The Torch T-shirts are only available onsite at Gotham FC's home game on Aug. 27 and the New York Liberty's home game on Aug. 28.

WOMXN'S EQUALITY NIGHT presented by CarMax

Gotham FC's official auto retail partner CarMax is committed to using its platform to elevate, highlight, and provide more opportunities to level the playing field for women's sports.

During the Gotham FC Womxn's Equality Night presented by CarMax, several womxn-owned small business from the New Jersey and New York areas will be featured in the Gotham FC Fan Fest to showcase their products and drive awareness of their businesses. Among the business owners are Adriana Carrig of Little Words Project, Elise Massa and Lindsey Reit of We Adorn You, and Courtney Levinsohn of Women in Soccer.

In addition, the Gotham FC Fan Fest will feature two unique photo experiences. One transports up to five fans at a time into different Gotham FC gameday experiences, including placing them in the action on the pitch. The other gives fans the choice to either use props to create their own GIFs, or opt to take a new professional headshot that could help them land the job of their dreams.

GOTHAM FC PLAYER MANA SHIM LEADS MAUI RELIEF EFFORTS

Native Hawaiian and Gotham FC player Mana Shim has a personal and ancestral connection to the island of Maui. Shim worked closely with Gotham FC, the National Women's Soccer League, the NWSL Players Association, and Soccer Post to coordinate the release of a Maui wildfire relief t-shirt, with 100 percent of t-shirt sale profits set to go to the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement relief efforts with the Native Hawaiian community on Maui. In Hawaiian, mana means spiritual or divine power.

As a law student at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law, Shim worked with Native Hawaiian landowners and farmers in Lahaina in their effort to secure water rights on their properties. Some of the families she worked with directly have lost their homes.
