KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Houston Dash earned a 2-0 over the Kansas City Current on the road at Children's Mercy Park. Houston scored twice in each half and earned its first clean sheet victory of the regular season.
Forward Diana Ordóñez scored her second goal of the season and the first in the run of play during the 42nd minute of the match. Forward Maria Sanchez found Ordóñez in the middle of the 18-yard box battling with a Kansas City defender. Ordóñez punched the ball into the back of the net as she was falling to the ground as she took the shot. Sanchez was credited with the assist, the first of her career against Kansas City.
Houston extended its lead in the 54th minute of the match after defender Ally Prisock scored her first career regular season goal and only the second of her career. Defender Caprice Dydasco found Prisock on the far post off corner kick. Prisock then headed the ball into the far post.
Midfielder Joelle Anderson forced a save in the second minute of the match to give the Dash its first corner kick of the night. Anderson took the strike from about 20-yards out and forced Kansas City Current goalkeeper Cassie Miller to punch the ball out of bounds.
Anderson had another shot on target in the 31st minute of the match after Ordóñez connected with Anderson who was making the central run towards goal. Anderson's one touch strike was handled by Miller.
Rookie midfielder Sophie Hirst took her first shot of the match in the 36th minute of the match but was blocked by a Kansas City defender. Hirst, who was the first selection made by Houston during the 2023 NWSL Draft, made her fifth start of the season on Friday evening.
Houston Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell became the first goalkeeper in league history to play 10,000 minutes with the same team. Campbell hit the mark in the 48th minute of the match and made a key save to preserve Houston's 1-0 lead. The Georgia native became the fifth goalkeeper in league history to reach the milestone. The Stanford product also became the first Houston Dash player to hit 10,000 minutes.
Forward Ryan Gareis nearly added the third goal of the night in the 84th minute of the match after forward Ebony Salmon found Gareis streaking on the left side. Gareis shot was saved by Miller but was later called offside.
Defender Katie Lind made her 50th start in a Houston Dash uniform in Friday's match against Kansas City. Lind, who joined the Dash in 2020, became the 10th player in club history to reach that milestone.
Midfielder Shea Groom made her season debut in the 79th minute in the match after coming on for Anderson. Groom, who is a Kansas City native, was sidelined through the first six games of the regular season due to an injury. The Texas A&M product was available off the bench in Houston's 2-1 win over the Portland Thorns on May 12.
Houston returns home to Shell Energy Stadium to host the Orlando Pride on Saturday, June 3 at 7:30pm CT.
