Houston Dash News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dash earned their fourth victory of the regular season this evening after defeating OL Reign 2-0 at BBVA Stadium. The match was delayed by 64 minutes due to inclement weather around the stadium.

Shea Groom sparked the first goal of the match minutes into the second half. The Texas A&M alum found Jasmyne Spencer at the edge of the box and the forward scored in her first start for the team. Spencer joined the team on May 31 in a trade with OL Reign and entered the game with two appearances.

Houston doubled their lead seven minutes later off a set piece from Sophie Schmidt. The cross found Groom inside the box who headed the ball toward goal. The ball floated toward the six-yard box and Katie Naughton towered over a Reign defender for her second goal of the season.

Reign forward Bethany Belcer forced the first save of the game in the 13th minute with a shot from inside the box. Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell was well positioned at the near post to punch her effort out of the box. The Dash shot stopper finished with four saves.

Campbell denied Eugénie Le Sommer in the 25th minute and made a follow up save on Sofia Huerta's effort at the near post. This was Campbell's 17th clean sheet for the club in all competitions.

Houston travels to Toyota Park in Illinois on Sunday, July 11 to face Kealia Watt and Chicago Red Stars.
