Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The Youngstown SteelHounds moved even closer to clinching a northern conference playoff spot as they were able to upend the Oklahoma Blazers 5-4 at the Chevrolet Centre on Wednesday night.

Peter Robertson scored early in the first period to give Oklahoma City a 1-0 lead. The Hounds stormed back with two in a row as Matt Hanson and Jeff Christian chimed in to make it 2-1 SteelHounds. Christian had two goals on the evening and for Hanson that was his second goal in two nights. The period ended on a sour note for the Hounds as Mike Burgoyne scored on the power play to end the first period tied at two.

Chris Richards got the ball rolling for the Hounds in the second period as he scored his 37th of the year at 5:41 to make it 3-2 Y-Town. Richards had a goal and two assists on the night giving him 102 points on the season and joining Jeff Christian as the only two players to reach the 100 point summit this season.

Stephen Margeson extended the lead for the Hounds on his 13th tally of the year to make it 4-2 at the midway point of the second period. Garrett Prosofsky scored for the Blazers to end the period with the Hounds leading 4-3.

The third period saw Jeff Christian record his second of the night to put the Hounds up 5-3 and seal the deal as Youngstown went to hold onto a 5-4 victory on Wednesday night.

The win is their eighth in a row and now with 71 points they are only one point away from clinching a Northern Conference Playoff spot and they are now only five points back of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for first place in the Northeast division. The Hounds play the Bugs in Louisiana on Friday night for an 8:05 face-off.
