Hounds Skate on Green Ice in St. Patty's Day Battle with Colorado

March 17, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The SteelHounds (21-33-5) begin a five-game home stand tonight that will carry them through the end of the 2005-06 season. Youngstown will have a big test in front of them tonight when they host the defending CHL Champion Colorado Eagles (41-12-6) at the Chevrolet Centre in the first of back-to-back games with the league's top team. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM and a limited number of tickets remain.

The Hounds will be wearing special St. Patrick's Day uniforms both tonight and tomorrow night and will auction off the green sweaters following tomorrow's game. Both games will be played on green ice as well as a tribute to the Irish.

Home has been a difficult place to find wins lately for Youngstown dropping each of their last eight games in the Chevy Centre. The Hounds record at home is deceiving as they have led or been tied in six of the eight losses.

Jeff Christian continues to pace the league with 52 goals and ranks second in points with 96. Colorado's Greg Pankewicz is second with 40. Both players have been named as one of the six finalists for the CHL's Most Valuable Player Award.

Chris Richards is riding a 19-game point streak that has seen him score four goals with 26 helpers. It is the longest streak of the veteran's career and is the longest this season in the CHL.

The Hounds and Eagles have met twice this season with Colorado winning both match-ups (both games played in Ft. Collins). Colorado is the only CHL team with 20 victories on the road this season and have long since locked up the Northwest Division championship.

Next Game:

The SteelHounds and Eagles meet again on Saturday night with face-off scheduled for 7:05 PM at the Chevrolet Centre. Only single seats remain for the game.
