Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown SteelHounds (21-34-5) needed a leprechaun or two on Friday night as they dressed just 12 skaters due to injuries and suspensions falling eventually to the Colorado Eagles (42-12-6) who clinch the best record in the Northern Conference with the victory. Greg Pankewicz scored a pair of goals and added an assist and Paulo Colaiacovo stopped 31 shots en route to his third shutout of the season and second against the Hounds. The loss extended the Youngstown home winless streak to nine straight games. The game was played on green ice which still couldn't change the Hounds luck.

Colorado mounted most of their offense in the opening period with Pankewicz creating a play in front of the net for Ryan Tobler off a SteelHounds turnover. Tobler has been hard on the Hounds this season and with his 23rd goal of the season tonight he added to his season total versus Youngstown making it four goals in three games. Pankewicz added a precision shot goal late in the period giving Colorado a 2-0 lead after one frame.

The only other scoring in the game came with 15 seconds remaining when Pankewicz took a rebound in his own zone and lifted it the length of the ice into an empty net for his second goal of the night and 42nd of the season. The goal officially went down as a shorthanded goal, the 16th allowed by Youngstown this season.

David St. Germain falls to 16-26-4 despite a very strong performance making 33 saves and earning third star of the game honors. For Colaiacovo, it was his 28th win of the season and third versus the Hounds.

Chris Richards failed to earn a point in the shutout ending his point streak at 19 games, a CHL longest this season.

The SteelHounds and Colorado Eagles meet again tomorrow night at the Chevrolet Centre. Only single seat locations remain. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (EST).
