
Eagles Get Lucky in 3-0 Win Over Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Colorado Eagles defeated Youngstown SteelHounds 3-0 on green ice Friday night at the Youngstown Convocation Centre. Paulo Colaiacovo recorded his third shutout of the season with 31 saves and Central Hockey League-leading 28th win of the season. Eagles captain Greg Pankewicz recorded two goals and one assist getting closer to the 1,000 point career mark, the Eagles right wing now has 992 points in his 15-year career. Ryan Tobler tallied the Eagles first goal earning his sixth game-winning goal of the season. Colorado improved their record to 42-12-6 and became the first team in the CHL to 90 points with just four games remaining in regular season.
Colorado scored the first goal of the game at the 6:19 mark of the first period from Ryan Tobler on an assist from Greg Pankewicz. The Eagles scored again at the 15:47 mark of the period on a slapshot from just inside the blue line by Greg Pankewicz for his first of two goals of the game. The Eagles and SteelHounds traded shots in the period, but it was the Eagles that were up 2-0.
Neither team was able to tally a goal in the second period, but it was the Eagles that out shot Youngstown 16-12.
Greg Pankewicz notched the only goal in the final frame on an empty net goal with 15 seconds remaining in the game. The Eagles first ranked penalty killing unit killed all 12 of the SteelHounds' power play opportunities in the game. Youngstown's goaltender David St. Germain stopped 32 of 35 shots in the loss, while Eagles goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo stopped all 31 shots he faced.
The two teams will face off again Saturday night on green ice at the Youngstown Convocation Centre. The Eagles would like to wish everyone a happy St. Patrick's Day.
