Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
MIDLAND, TX - The RockHounds scored in each of the first six frames and received a quality start from Chris Jensen Friday night, upending Corpus Christi 9-5 in Game 3 of the Texas League South Division Series.
The result stages a must-win scenario for the Hooks Saturday night.
Jensen held Corpus Christi to two hits through four as Midland established a 5-0 lead.
In the fifth, Jio Mier worked a lead-off walk and, one out later, consecutive hits by Roberto Pena, Chan-Jong Moon, Danry Vasquez and Teoscar Hernandez pushed three runs across. Pena and Hernandez bookended the rally with doubles. Jensen responded with a strikeout and a fly ball, stranding two in scoring position.
Jacob Dorris, who was assigned to Corpus Christi this afternoon from Quad Cities, struggled with command in the bottom half. Dorris walked three and hit a batter, giving Midland a 6-3 edge.
The Hounds tacked on three more in the sixth against Gonzalo Sanudo. The final blow was a two-run shot to right field by Jaycob Brugman.
Brugman and Renato Nunez combined for six RBIs. Ryon Healy paced Midland's 14-hit attack with four knocks of his own.
The Hooks mounted a rally in the eighth as the first four reached against Jonathan Joseph. Conrad Gregor's RBI single and a Moon sac fly cut the Hounds lead to four.
Kyle Westwood made the start for Corpus Christi and surrendered four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks in 2.2 innings.
Francis Martes gets the ball for the Hooks Saturday night. Jake Sanchez is slated to start for Midland. First pitch is 7:00.
