Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH (Aug. 22, 2018) - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (12-3-9) wrapped up its two-game homestand with a 1-1 draw against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (7-10-7) at Highmark Stadium.
With the draw, their second straight in as many matches, the Hounds extended their unbeaten streak to five games. Midfielder Mouhamed Dabo highlighted the scoring output for the Black and Gold, recording his first career goal to give the Hounds a brief lead in first-half stoppage time before Tampa Bay tacked on an equalizer in the 72nd minute.
How It Happened
After huddled around and offered congratulations by his teammates on the field, midfielder Mouhamed Dabo sprinted toward the bench to share additional embraces with fellow Hounds.
The Senegal native posted his first goal - and his first points - of his professional career, blasting a shot into the twine from about 25 yards out after receiving a ball from Neco Brett. Potted in the second minute of stoppage time, the tally gave the Hounds a 1-0 advantage right before the halftime whistle.
Dabo's shot was the final shot the Hounds recorded in the first half, a period that they outshot Tampa Bay, 6-1. The Rowdies' one shot was on target, but handled easily by Hounds goalkeeper Mike Kirk.
The Rowdies struck back during the 72nd minute of the second half.
Collecting a pass from midfielder Martin Vingaard that slipped behind the Hounds' backline, striker Junior Flemmings trapped the sphere close to the net before releasing a shot around Kirk.
Both teams did not record a shot for the remainder of the match.
In the 62nd minute, Thomas Vancaeyezeele picked up a yellow card on a foul. Due to yellow card accumulation, he is expected to miss the Hounds' next match against Indy Eleven, as he was listed on the USL's Week 24 discipline report. The midfielder leads the squad with 2,099 minutes this season.
Man of the Match
Posting a goal and leading the squad with nine possessions gained, Mouhamed Dabo was a key piece for the Hounds on both ends of the pitch.
Stat of the Game
Posting his first points of his professional career, Mouhamed Dabo joins teammates Thomas Vancaeyezeele, Jordan Dover, Tobi Adewole, Ben Fitzpatrick, Todd Pratzner and Ray Lee in notching their first professional points this season. Vancaeyezeele is the only rookie of this group.
Beyond the Box Score
With the Rowdies' goal in the 72nd minute, the Hounds' shutout streak ends at 200 minutes.
Seven of the Hounds' 11 field players who made an appearance recorded at least one chance created.
With 74 percent possession, Pittsburgh won the possession battle for its fourth straight match.
On the defensive end, center back Joe Greenspan led Pittsburgh with five clearances and four interceptions during the match. What's Next
Riverhounds SC will wrap up the month of August with a road match against Indy Eleven (11-7-6) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at Lucas Oil Stadium. The sides tied their first meeting this season, 0-0, on May 11.

On how the team played...
"I thought we played really positive. We had good possession - that's a brand of soccer that will win a lot of games and win playoff games."
On the game...
"I'm really happy with how we played. I'm not happy with the result, but I'm happy with how we played."
On Mouhamed Dabo's goal...
"Most of them if they catch the bouncing ball and get it on frame with any type of movement - most of our guys can hit from there - that is a range we can score in. He did well to recognize it, ran on, concentrated and got a good strike. It was a big goal."
Midfielder Mouhamed Dabo
On coaches Bob Lilley and Mark Pulisic...
"I'm very happy for scoring for my team. Pulisic and Bob, they did a lot for me. I can tell this year I'm improving a lot with them. They talk to me. They try to always help me improve my game."
On his goal...
"Last practice, coach Bob was telling us to sometimes try to shoot. When Neco gave me the ball, I try sometimes to shoot. So I took my chance and it worked today."
On his celebration...
"It's a mix of Senegalese and Nigerian dance. That's what I tried to do."
