Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Two former Wichita players stole the show against their old team Thursday night as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Thunder by a final score of 1-0 at the CenturyTel Center. Jon Horrell made 31 saves to earn his first shutout as a Mudbug and Travis Clayton had the game-winning goal in the first period as both players faced Wichita for the first time since joining the Bugs.

Bossier-Shreveport's penalty killing was solid with a 6 for 6 effort and the Mudbugs held off a late push as the Thunder tried to tie the game late.

The first period moved quickly with nice flow as both teams skated well to start the game. Late in the period, the Mudbugs took the lead on their second powerplay of the night. Travis Clayton snapped an eight game scoring drought when he tapped home a rebound in front to give the Bugs the 1-0 lead after the first period.

Wichita had three second period powerplays and the Mudbugs had one, but both goaltenders stood strong to keep the score unchanged. Both teams had nine shots on goal in the second.

The Thunder outshot the Bugs 12-7 in the third period, but couldn't get the game tied. Horrell made a number of big saves in the last 20 minutes to keep Wichita off the board and earn the first shutout victory of his professional career, moving his record to 3-0-1 this year.

Tim Boron was solid in net for the Thunder as well, stopping 28 shots but falling to 1-4-0 for the season. Wichita finished with a 31-29 shot advantage in the contest. The Mudbugs went 1 for 4 on the powerplay, while the Thunder missed on all six of their chances.
