Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers played another closely contested game Thursday night against the Corpus Christi Hooks. The game was tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the ninth, and for the second consecutive night, the Hooks rallied to beat the Drillers 2-1.
Drillers starting pitcher Ben Holmes continued his success since joining Tulsa, pitching a second quality start in just as many outings. Holmes went seven innings giving up only one run on three hits while striking out nine batters.
Tulsa staked Holmes to a lead in the top of the fifth. With Tyler Goeddel at second, Errol Robinson hit a ball to third that was misplayed, allowing Goeddel to come around and score.
The Hooks answered back immediately, scoring in the bottom half of the fifth. A leadoff walk and stolen base by Josh Rojas led to a double by Abraham Toro to tie the game at 1-1.
Both pitchers dialed in to not allow any offense until the bottom of the ninth. Hooks starter Brandon Bielakwent eight innings, giving up only two hits and an unearned run while striking out six Drillers.
After a 1-2-3 eighth inning, Tulsa reliever Shea Spitzbarth got into some trouble to start the bottom of the ninth. Back-to-back singles placed two Hooks in scoring position with no outs. The next batter, Carmen Benedetti, hit a fly ball to D.J. Peters that was deep enough to score Ronnie Dawson giving the Hooks the walk-off sacrifice fly and the 2-1 victory.
