Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

ALL ABOARD! - If you're thinking about getting season tickets for the third year of Hooks Baseball, you may want to move that errand up on your "to do" list. Season tickets are moving fast, and it won't be long before they're sold out.

In addition to having the same great seat for all 70 Hooks home games, season ticket holders enjoy a host of other great benefits, including tickets to this year's Texas League All-Star Game at Whataburger Field (June 26th) and tickets to all six games of the Whataburger College Classic in March. Call 361-561-HOOK, and ask for the ticket office (ext. 1), or stop by the Whataburger Field box office to reserve your spot as soon as possible. The 2007 Texas League season is now just 71 days away, with the April 12th home opener against Wichita just 78 days in the offing!

ASTROS LUNCHEON SET FOR FEB. 8 - Jeff Bagwell, Astros legend and now a special assistant to general manager Tim Purpura, will be in Corpus Christi on Thursday, February 8th for the Astros annual Winter Caravan Luncheon. The event gets under way at 11:30 a.m. at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center, located at the Port of Corpus Christi.

Individual tickets are $25 and are available by calling 361-561-HOOK. There will be time following the luncheon program for autographs. For more information on the Astros visit, go to http://www.cchooks.com/news/?id=7248.

OWLS ARE NUMBER ONE! - Teams at this year's Whataburger College Classic will be taking their shots at the Rice Owls. Expectations are high as Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association have Rice ranked atop their preseason polls. And recently, Joe Savery and Cole St. Clair were selected as the 2007 preseason Conference USA Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, in voting by C-USA baseball coaches.

Did you know...that former Ray High standout Trey Crain is a freshman this season for the Owls? Make plans now to see the Owls, the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Second Annual Whataburger College Classic, March 8th-11th at Whataburger Field. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 16th, at 9 a.m.

WEBSITE POLL - In the closest poll we have ever placed on our website, fans were evenly split, and we mean evenly split, on which of the four listed recent signees by the Astros would have the biggest impact on the club in 2007. With a total of 266 votes, only one vote separated the four players! Corner infielder Mike Lamb and closer Brad Lidge each pulled 25.19% of the vote, or 67 votes apiece, while utility infielder Mark Loretta and relief pitcher Dan Wheeler each drew 24.81% of the vote, or 66 votes per man. Now that's a race!

This week, we'd like to warm you up with summertime thoughts at Whataburger Field. To log your best spring/summer memory, go to www.cchooks.com and scroll down the home page to find the poll.
