Frisco RoughRiders News Release
A late-inning rally by Corpus pushes them ahead of the RoughRiders on Thursday night
The RoughRiders held a 2-1 lead heading into the eighth inning, but the Frisco bullpen couldn't hold the lead for starter Derek Holland as Corpus defeated the âRiders 6-4 Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Holland allowed one run, but it wasn't earned, over six innings, striking out seven. Julio Borbon had three hits and two RBI for Frisco while extending his current hit streak to 17 games, tying the season-best for a RoughRider.
Frisco broke a scoreless tie in the fourth frame when Jose Vallejo singled, stole second, and scored on a double play. The Hooks tied the score at one in the fifth on an RBI single by Lou Santangelo, but the âRiders answered in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by Borbon to score Manny Pina and give Frisco the 2-1 lead.
Frisco held on with the one run lead until the eighth when the Frisco bullpen gave up five runs to give Corpus the 6-2 advantage. The âRiders attempted a comeback in the ninth as Johnny Whittleman scored on an RBI single by Emerson Frostad who would then score on an RBI single by Borbon. However, the RoughRider rally was stopped short as the Corpus' bullpen preserved the 6-4 victory.
Holland lasted six innings, allowing just one unearned run on just four hits while striking out seven earning the no-decision. Andrew Laughter (2-3) took the loss as he allowed four runs over 0.2 innings pitched. Paul Estrada (2-0) earned the victory with a scoreless inning of work.
Borbon led the Frisco offense with three hits and a team-best two RBI. Steve Murphy collected a pair of hits, including his team-leading ninth triple. Frostad had two hits as well and added an RBI. Borbon also stole a base on the night.
Tomorrow will be the final game between these two clubs in 2008 as Frisco will attempt to tie up the series at two games apiece. RHP Neftali Feliz (4-2, 3.12) will toe the rubber against LHP Andy Van Hekken (5-3, 3.62) for Corpus.
