Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
ROUND ROCK - Granden Goetzman's two-run home run in the ninth inning salted Corpus Christi's two-game sweep of the Express as the Hooks upended Round Rock, 7-3, Sunday afternoon at Dell Diamond.
Hooks hurlers held the Express to four hits while stranding 12 on base.
Brandon Bailey earned the victory by spinning three scoreless innings and Justin Ferrell picked up the save after punching out four over the final two frames.
Switching-hitting Abraham Toro, who reached base four times, engaged the Corpus Christi offense via a double off Akeem Bostick in the second. Stephen Wrenn chased him home with a two-out single into left field.
In the fourth, the Hooks turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead against Corbin Martin. Toro drew a lead-off walk and managed to score thanks to a Chuckie Robinson base hit and an error by right-fielder Drew Ferguson. Lorenzo Quintana capped the rally courtesy of an RBI single into left.
Derek Fisher help the Express tie the game in the home half. Ronel Blanco issued a lead-off walk to Fisher, who stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored via a wild pitch.
Toro accounted for the go-ahead knock in the fifth, an RBI single off Reymin Guduan.
Wrenn opened the sixth with a three-bagger into left-center and promptly scored when Quintana rolled a grounder to short.
Goetzman, who tripled in the seventh, put the contest out of reach in the in the ninth, clobbering a 3-0 pitch from Brendan McCurry onto the berm in left field.
The Hooks open their 15th season of play Thursday night at Whataburger Field as the Amarillo Sod Poodles come to town. Jose Hernandez, who picked up the win Saturday night, will take the ball for CC. The Sod Poodles, new Double-A club of the San Diego Padres, have not announced their starter. Opening Night first pitch is 6:15.
