Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - Corpus Christi posted 16 hits and 16 walks in its largest win of the year Sunday afternoon, beating Northwest Arkansas, 17-4, for a series triumph at Arvest Ballpark.
The Hooks, who have won seven of their last 11, established new season-highs for runs and free passes while missing the 2022 standard for hits by two.
Bryan Arias paced the attack with a career-best five RBIs, cracking a two-run homer in the seventh and a bases-clearing double in the eighth.
Wilyer Abreu and Yainer Diaz both reached base six times, with each scoring three runs. Abreu, who leads the Texas League with 52 walks, matched the club record by drawing four free passes.
Shay Whitcomb totaled three singles in his first three at-bats, driving in three runs.
From the nine spot, Luis Guerrero scored four times and belted his first Double-A home run.
Abreu, Luke Berryhill, Diaz, and Arias - batting first through fourth in the order - teamed to go 10-for-18 with nine runs and 10 RBIs.
Hooks starter Cody Deason, pitching for the first time since April 29, retired all nine batters he faced, striking out four.
Jose Bravo picked up the win by holding the Naturals to a two-run home run over four frames. Bravo struck out a season-best seven and retired 10 of 11 to finish the appearance.
The Hooks are off Monday and begin a six-game homestand against San Antonio on Tuesday.
