CORPUS CHRISTI - A total of 23 contests, including 15 high school games and eight college match-ups, comprise the 2016 Whataburger Field amateur baseball calendar released Wednesday.

Doubleheaders involving five of the six Corpus Christi Independent School District teams punctuate the first two nights of the University Interscholastic League season. Carroll, Class 6A's 12th-ranked squad by txhighschoolbaseball.com, entertains Victoria East at 5:30 on February 22. Wes Kolle's Titans are rated 13th in 5A.

Later that evening, District 30-5A power Moody tangles with the Ray Texans of 28-6A in a crosstown rivalry.

The next day at 4 o'clock, junior pitcher A.G. Ayala leads the Miller Bucs of 30-5A against Incarnate Word Academy in the Angels' first-ever Whataburger Field appearance. That night, three-time state champion and fourth-ranked Calallen of 30-5A tangles with 28-6A member King at 7.

The Kleberg Bank College Classic runs February 26-27-28 and features the host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, Central Florida, Michigan State, and Texas State. College Classic tickets go on sale February 5 at the Whataburger Field Box Office, cchooks.com, and 361-561-HOOK (4665).

High school games resume with MIRA's Sports & More Championship Saturday on March 5.

The new Veterans Memorial High School program, led by coach Lee Yeager, makes its scheduled Whataburger Field debut vs. Tuloso-Midway on March 8. Other 30-5A rivals Gregory-Portland and Flour Bluff square off a week later.

District 31 mates Banquete and Bishop, the second- and third-ranked clubs in Class 3A, close the schedule March 29.
