Frisco RoughRiders News Release
Corpus Christi, TX-The RoughRiders came from behind to tie the game, but a two-run Hooks eighth inning was the difference, as Corpus Christi defeated Frisco 4-2 Friday night at Whataburger Field. Jurickson Profar accounted for both RBIs, hitting a solo home run in the sixth, and adding a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Frisco had its first chance to score in the top of the third. Facing Brett Oberholtzer, Engel Beltre reached base on an infield single. Jurickson Profar followed suit, and Beltre advanced to third on a heads-up base running play. However Oberholtzer left both runners aboard, getting Mike Olt to pop out to second.
After working out of a jam, Oberholtzer got a lift from his offense in the bottom of the third. Jordan Kreke gave the Hooks their first base hit on a slow groundball up the third base line. Jake Brigham then jumped ahead of Jair Fernandez, but the Hooks catcher drilled Brigham's 1-2 offering over the leftfield wall, to make it 2-0 Corpus Christi.
Frisco made it a 2-1 game in the top of the sixth. Hitting right-handed, Profar took Oberholtzer deep to make it a 2-1 game. It was Profar's first home run of the season off a southpaw, and his first in 95 at-bats.
Two innings later, the "ËRiders shortstop would tie the ballgame. Setting the table, Engel Beltre led off the inning with triple to right off Hooks reliever Kevin Chapman (2-1). Not looking to do too much, Profar blooped a shallow fly ball into rightfield that allowed Beltre to tag-up and score.
However the Hooks would have the final say in the bottom of the eighth. Austin Wates opened up the frame with a base hit off Wilfredo Boscan (2-1). A pass ball moved Wates to move to second, before a Zach Zaneski throwing error allowed the Hooks lead-off hitter to score. Jose Martinez also came home in the inning to make it 4-2 Corpus Christi.
Down to their final three outs, the "ËRiders went quietly, as Jason Stoffel closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts.
Despite being charged with a blown save, Kevin Chapman earned the win, tossing one inning and allowing an earned run. Wilfredo Boscan was saddled with the loss, despite being tagged with a pair of unearned runs. He allowed one hit and walked one. Jason Stoffel picked up his third save, walking one and striking out two.
"ËRiders starter Jake Brigham tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one. "ËHooks starter Brett Oberholtzer also went seven innings, surrendering one run on five hits.
Frisco and Corpus Christi play game three of their four game series Saturday night.
