Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO, Texas - Clean-up hitter Tim Smith clubbed his first Double-A home run and knocked in five while two-hole hitter Mitch Moreland went 4-for-4 with three runs to power the RoughRiders to a 9-3 win over the Hooks Saturday night at the Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Smith capped Frisco's four-run fourth with a single that dropped just inside the left field line with the bases loaded. Dustin Majewski and Moreland scored on the play, giving the Riders a 5-0 lead. Moreland singled earlier in the frame to make it 3-0.

Smith also wrapped up Frisco's four-run eighth, this time with a three-run homer to the berm in right on a 3-2 pitch that finalized the scoring at 9-3. Smith finished 3-for-5 with a run and five RBI's.

Moreland singled four times after drawing a walk in the first. He's 5-for-6 in the series with five runs and one RBI.

Trailing 5-0, the Hooks made a run at Frisco in the middle innings. Mitch Einertson crunched a home run high onto to the berm in left with one out in the fifth to put Corpus Christi on the board at 5-1. Later in the inning, Felix Molina singled with two outs and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Drew Locke drilled a single to left to chase Molina home for a 5-2 score. The RBI was Locke's 71st of the season.

In the sixth, Collin DeLome launched a sky-scraping home run that dropped over the wall in right-center to bring the Hooks to within two at 5-3. The homer was DeLome's 14th of the year, giving him sole possession of the league lead in that department. The blast also ended a 17-game homerless drought for DeLome.

Frisco starter Michael Ballard (2-4) earned the win by holding the Hooks to three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out four. The bullpen tandem of Beau Vaughan and John Bannister allowed just one hit over the final three frames.

Casey Hudspeth (4-6) suffered the loss, charged with five runs on seven hits and four walks in 3.1 innings.

In other news from Saturday, manager Luis Pujols announced that southpaw Polin Trinidad's next start will be for Triple-A Round Rock. Trinidad will remain with the Hooks through the series at Frisco and will be in uniform for next Wednesday's Texas League All-Star Game at the Dr Pepper Ballpark. He will join the Express after the All-Star Game.

In 13 games and 12 starts for the Hooks, Trinidad is 7-5 with a 2.94 ERA. He ranks sixth in the circuit in ERA and is tied for second in the league in wins. A two-time Texas League Pitcher of the Week, Trinidad posted a 0.29 ERA (1 earned run in 31.1 innings) over his last four starts.

Game three of the series with Frisco takes place Sunday night at 6:05. The Hooks send Wilton Lopez (1-1, 7.88) to the hill against lefty Kasey Kiker (4-5, 3.25).
