Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

A night after suffering a shutout, Corpus Christi returned the favor and erupted offensively, pummeling the RockHounds 10-0 Thursday at Citibank Ballpark.

The Hooks (30-28) are now 3.5 games off the pace of front-running Frisco in the Texas League South first-half race.

Corpus Christi posted a four-run second inning thanks to RBI singles by J.B. Shuck and Jhon Florentino, a run-scoring double off the bat of Wladimir Sutil and a sacrifice fly from German Duran.

Hooks starter Jordan Lyles need little support, scattering five hits and one walk over four innings. He struck out two, tossing 36 of his 63 pitches for strikes. Lyle's night was shorted due to a 55-minute delay caused by severe lighting.

Henry Villar (1-3) picked up where Lyles left off, fanning four over three innings to record the victory.

David Cook blasted his fifth home run of the season in the fifth, a mammoth shot over the 17-foot fence in left field.

Midland (27-31) hurler Pedro Figueroa (1-6) was charged with five runs and 10 hits in 4.2 frames.

Corpus Christi tacked on two more in the eighth on Koby Clemens' bases-loaded walk and a two-run single by Jimmy VanOstrand.

Clemens was at it again in the eighth, belting a two-run, line-drive dinger into the teeth of a 30 mph wind from right field. The homer was Clemens' league-leading 15th of the season.

The Hooks and 'Hounds play Game 3 Friday night when Jeremy Johnson (1-5) takes on lefty Carlos Hernandez (4-1). First pitch is 7 p.m.
