Drillers Drop Redbirds, 7-3

The Tulsa Drillers got home runs from Wilin Rosario and Charlie Blackmon and defeated the Springfield Cardinals 7-3 Thursday night at Hammons Field. The win was the third straight overall for the Drillers and continued a trend for them against their North Division rivals. They have now won 9 of their past 11 meetings with the Cardinals, including 5 of 6 games in Springfield this season.
The Drillers started quickly in the Thursday's victory with three unearned runs in the top of the second inning. After reaching on an error to start the frame, Ryan Harvey swiped second base and scored on a base hit by Daniel Mayora. Rosario singled to put runners at first and third, but Mayora was retired at the plate on a failed double steal attempt.
Tulsa eventually loaded the bases when Jeff Van Kooten was hit by a pitch and pitcher Keith Weiser singled. Rosario came home with the second run on a passed ball, and Van Kooten made it 3-0 when he scored on another error from the Redbirds.
Tyler Henley narrowed the margin to two runs with a long home run to center field off Weiser to open the bottom of the third, but Blackmon answered with his first Double A home run in the fifth. The opposite field shot restored Tulsa's three-run lead.
The Cardinals struck again with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 4-3.
They would get no closer as the score remained the same until Rosario's two-run homer in the eighth gave Tulsa a 6-3 lead. It was Rosario's 8th home run of the year, tying him for the team lead.
Anthony Jackson added an RBI double in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Weiser collected the win to even his record to 4-4. He surrendered six hits and three runs (2 ER) in six innings. He walked three batters and struck out four.
Andy Graham worked two scoreless relief innings, and Scott Rice pitched a pitched scoreless ninth to complete the victory.
Rosario finished with three hits, while Mayora was 2-4.
Greg Reynolds will make his second Major League rehab start for the Drillers in game three of their series in Springfield Friday night. Reynolds is expected to work the first two innings before scheduled starter Cory Riordan relieves him. Chuckie Fick (0-0, 2.16 ERA) will make only his second start of the year for the Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10PM at Hammons Field.
