HOOKS FALL 7-3 TO TULSA Boys head home for eight-game homestand
(TULSA, Oklahoma) - The Hooks dropped their second straight to Tulsa 7-3 on Wednesday night at Drillers Stadium. With the loss, the Hooks find themselves in a possible three-way tie for first in the South depending on the outcome of the San Antonio and Frisco games tonight. If San Antonio pulls out a win against Wichita, the Hooks will fall to one game out.
Things started off bad for the Hooks who fell behind early and stayed down for the rest of the game. Starter Chance Douglass, who surrendered five earned runs over the game's first three frames including a two-run homer by Joseph Koshansky in the first and a solo shot by Joe Gaetti in the second, allowed six runs over six innings and now holds a 6-6 record, dropping his fourth straight decision.
Koshansky added another home run in the bottom of the eighth after the Hooks threatened at a comeback in the top of the frame. The runs came after the Hooks loaded the bases with no outs and scored two on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Walter Young and Jorge Cortes to bring the Hooks within three at 6-3. However, Koshansky's blast killed all hopes of a rally and put the boys down for good at 7-3.
The Hooks' first run came in the fourth when Josh Bonifay hit a two-out single off Tulsa starter Marc Kaiser (8-9), scoring center fielder Hunter Pence, who reached on a one-out double. Kaiser collected the win for Tulsa.
Missing tonight for the Hooks was a hit from Walter Young, who finished the game 0-for-3 and ended his 16-game hitting streak. Young also put an end to his league leading 18-game road hit streak.
The boys will open up an eight-game home stretch tomorrow at Whataburger Field when they begin a four-game series with Wichita. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm and LHP Troy Patton (1-2, 6.75) will take the mound for the Hooks against Wichita's LHP Tyler Lumsden (0-0, 2.57). Join the Hooks tomorrow for "Thirsty Thursdays" at the ballpark where all drinks are half-priced, courtesy of Circle K/Citgo.
