Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks avoided a perfect game bid Monday by the Arkansas Travelers but ultimately fell in the series opener, 5-2.

Arkansas was perfect over the first 6.0 frames behind starter Justin Dunn and reliever Matt Tenuta. Dunn struck out eight of the 12 batters he faced over 4.0 innings, needing just 49 pitches to do so. Tenuta (W, 3-2) kept the perfect streak going for his 2.0 stanzas.

Then a power outage struck Whataburger Field in the top of the seventh, causing a 20-minute on-field delay. The Travelers replaced with Aaron Fletcher, who allowed a leadoff triple to the first batter he faced, Bryan De La Cruz. He would later score the Hooks' first run on a J.J. Matijevic groundout.

Cal Raleigh hit a two-run blast (4) in the second off Brandon Bailey for the lead. Bailey (L, 4-5) allowed three runs on five hits, though he struck out eight without surrendering a free pass. Raleigh finished 2-for-4 in the game.

De La Cruz deposited the second Hooks run on a eight-inning RBI single.

Enoli Paredes, carrying a 2-0 record with a 0.93 ERA (3 ER, 12 H in 29.0 IP) at Whataburger Field, is slated to start Tuesday against southpaw Ian McKinney (0-0, 2.25). The first 3,000 fans at Whataburger Field will receive an Astros Jose Altuve Sliding Bobblehead.
