Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers were victorious tonight, July 3rd, over the Thunder Bay Border Cats by a final score of 12-11 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Both teams came out swinging early in this one. The Honkers offense jumped out with five runs in the top of the first only to surrender seven runs to the Border Cats in the bottom half of the inning.

The Border Cats put two more on the board in the bottom of the second inning to go ahead 9-5, but the Honkers' bats would not back down.

The Honkers scored four more in the top of the third sparked by a solo shot from first baseman Chad Wallach (Cal State Fullerton). Wallach finished the game 3 for 5 with two RBIs. The Honkers lineup would score three more in the frame to tie it 9-9.

Rochester starter Chris Noble (Pikeville) just did not have his best stuff tonight as he only lasted 0.1 innings and gave up seven runs on six hits to earn the no-decision.

Rochester reliever Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) would pick up the slack, however, and pitch the final 6.0 innings to earn his first win of the season and even his record at 1-1.

Trailing 10-9 in the top of the eighth, Honkers designated hitter Trevor Podratz (Hawai'i) belted his team-leading seventh homerun of the season with a runner on base to go ahead 12-11, which is where the score would stay. The Honkers tied the series at 2-2 with one more to play.

The Honkers offense banged out nineteen hits in the victory.

Rochester leftfielder Justin Parr (Illinois) went 4 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs and centerfielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) finished his night 3 for 6.

Game five of the five-game series from Thunder Bay, Ontario is set for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 4th at 6:05 PM. Starting for the Honkers (15-19) is right hander Carl O'Neal (St. Mary's TX), and he will oppose Thunder Bay (15-19) starter Matt Cooper (Bellevue). O'Neal is 0-1 in six appearances with a 5.82 ERA. Cooper holds an 0-0 record in four appearances with a 4.50 ERA.

The Honkers will be home again on Saturday, July 7th at 7:05 PM when they battle the Willmar Stingers.
