Brampton Honey Badgers News Release
The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday a partnership with Socks 4 Souls Canada for the Inaugural Sock Toss Game on June 9 at the CAA Centre. The event will take place at halftime when the Honey Badgers take on the visiting Vancouver Bandits. Fans are encouraged to bring new men's, women's, and children's athletic tube socks that will be donated to local homeless shelters in Brampton and Peel Region communities.
A spinoff of the traditional "Teddy Bear Toss" most commonly seen at hockey games, this unique event will involve fans in attendance throwing new pairs of socks onto the court to raise awareness of this great cause. The main goal of this event is to raise awareness of homelessness in our local communities.
"We are grateful to collaborate with Socks 4 Souls Canada and play a small role in bringing awareness to the significant challenges surrounding homelessness within our country, and within the Brampton community," said Michael Cvitkovic, president, Brampton Honey Badgers. "All fans are encouraged to bring new socks to toss and donate, in addition to learning more about this great cause."
Since its inception in 2015, Socks 4 Souls Canada has donated more than one million socks to the homeless community across the country, supporting 4,800 individuals every month and more than 100 shelters. Clean socks keep feet warm and dry, while also helping to prevent skin breakdown, blisters, and infections. Socks 4 Souls Canada will be located on the concourse with pairs of socks available for purchase, with proceeds going directly to their initiatives supporting local homeless shelters. Fans are encouraged to bring their own new men's, women's, and children's athletic tube socks to participate as well.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Brampton Honey Badgers organization for connecting with Socks 4 Souls Canada for their first-ever sock toss fundraiser," said Dr. Sylvia Marcos, co-founder, Socks 4 Souls Canada. "We are thrilled by the opportunity to join with Canadian basketball fans to support those of us who are currently experiencing homelessness."
Socks 4 Souls Canada is a non-profit, primarily volunteer-run organization committed to providing homeless people with warmth, comfort, dignity, mobility and health through new socks. Good foot health has a tremendous impact on one's ability to seek food, shelter, medical care, and other social services. More information can be found by visiting www.socks4soulscanada.com.
Coming off a historic championship in 2022, the Honey Badgers start the 2023 campaign May 24 at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, in what will tip off the CEBL's fifth season live on national television, as part of a multi-year deal with TSN. The Honey Badgers play their first home game at the CAA Centre in Brampton two days later, May 26, against rival Scarborough. The CEBL announced the permanent relocation of the Honey Badgers from Hamilton to Brampton on November 28, 2022.
