Brampton Honey Badgers News Release
The Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Wednesday that they have signed American forward Zane Waterman to a contract for the 2022 season. Waterman spent this past season playing for U.D. Oliveirense of the Portugal-LPB. As a starter, he averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds in 26.9 minutes per game through 24 games.
"Zane is an extremely smart pick and pop forward with the ability to make plays in high post situations," said Honey Badgers general manager Jermaine Anderson. "His ability to shoot will allow us to space the floor a lot better and he is a solid rebounder. More importantly, Zane is fully committed to helping us achieve our goals this season."
The North Carolina native played his collegiate career at Manhattan College in the NCAA. He was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference third-team as a junior. He averaged 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in college. The Jaspers alumni has played four seasons as a pro in six countries including Finland, Argentina, Poland, Czech Republic, New Zealand and Portugal. Through 102 professional games, Waterman averages 14.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 27.2 minutes per game.
The Honey Badgers are coming off a 9-5 record, placing third in the 2021 CEBL season standings. They tip off the fourth Canadian Elite Basketball League season Wednesday, May 25 when the expansion Montreal Alliance visit FirstOntario Centre. It will be the first of 100 regular season CEBL games played in 69 days for Canada's official national professional basketball league. Tickets are on sale now at ticketmaster.ca or 905-522-BALL.
