A Note From Quint Studer
The Blue Wahoos won three games and lost two this first home stand. In baseball if a team win three out of every five games they likely make the playoffs and at times go on to win the championship.
In looking how we did off the field, I feel we matched the team with more wins than losses. However, for us that will not lead us to a championship. We are committed to doing better.
Over the last five years our fan experience as led all Minor League Baseball by a wide margin. For these first five games our fan experience results were more like the rest of the Minor League pack. Not acceptable or good enough.
The main reason why was the wait times for food. Before I share the plans to reduce wait times, let me share some wins.
Almost all other aspects we control did very well: Ticketing, greetings, ushers, in-game entertainment, merchandise and quality of food. We did have two minor items with merchandise and the new video board.
The colder than normal weather created a shortage of warmer items as well as less expensive items selling out. Anna Striano, who leads this area, is all over it and will have more options in the lower price range. With the sweatshirts, there is not much to do with cold front behind us.
With the new video board, it is a matter of staff getting acclimated to the new board and its potential. I felt it got better each game.
As I have spoken and written about last year, we were not happy with leadership in Food and Beverage and made a change. The biggest issue was too much employee turnover. Our first home tand had more new staff that we would like. While we did more preseason training than we have ever done, it just does not prepare anyone for the reality of thousands of people. So each game we will get better and this homestand you will notice a concierge in front of the stands, signage with wait times, fast lines for refills, more signage with food options and our season ticket holder concierge Nancy Berry in the Better Homes and Garden/Main Street Properties Lounge.
We are grateful for your partnership and your input in what is good and what can be better. Your patience over these years watching the players develop is obvious. We are thankful that you also support the Blue Wahoos staff as they develop.
We are sorry for the wait times for food and will shorten them.
Thank you for your support.
Homestand Special
Jacksonville is on the way to the Pensacola Bay and we're bringing back an old favorite to the ballpark. "The Cuban B." is an old dog who doesn't need any new tricks. A twist on the classic Cuban, the Cuban B. features a juicy grilled burger topped with shaved pork loin, shaved ham and swiss cheese, pickles and Dijon mayo on a pretzel bun. Served with French fries on a souvenir Frisbee, the Cuban B. can be found at Port Side Grille for $12.
Near, far, where ever you are... We hope to see you on this Wahoo Wednesday for our Titanic 20th anniversary theme night! Come out and enjoy music from the Titanic soundtrack performed by Pensacola's own ECHO Orchestra quartet as the gates open!

Former Wahoo Update
Jesse Winker's first MLB hit helps Cincinnati Reds to win! Winker knew Brewers right-hander Carlos Torres liked to throw cutters. He prepared for one, and took a swing on the first pitch. The contact wasn't hard, but it dropped into left for a run-scoring hit. Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun then misplayed the ball as it rolled his way, gifting Winker a defense-aided double.
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
