MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces its Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 6 through 16. Righthander Luis Diaz of the Mobile BayBears was selected as the Pitcher of the Week while Jackson Generals infielder Colin Walsh earned Player of the Week honors.

Over a pair of starts, BayBears righty Luis Diaz was nothing short of dominant. Tossing 12.0 scoreless innings, Diaz struck out 15 Southern League batters, while scattering just four hits and issuing four walks. The Valencia, Venezuela native finished the award period with a 1-0 record and a miniscule .105 batting average against and WHIP of 0.67. Diaz' first start came on April 8 against Chattanooga, a 3-2 BayBears win, where he struck out eight Lookouts over six shutout innings. Six days later, he held the Jackson Generals scoreless over six more frames, fanning seven, while allowing just two hits.

A former Stanford University Cardinal, Jackson infielder Colin Walsh began his 2017 season on a scorching start. Over nine games played, Walsh either led or tied for the league lead with 13 hits, nine extra-base hits, 16 total bases, seven doubles, nine walks, a. 743 slugging percentage and OPS of 1.232. Furthermore, his .371 batting average (second), seven runs (T-fifth), two homeruns (T-fifth), nine RBI (T-second) and .489 on base percentage (second) were all top five numbers. Recording multi-hit outings in six of his nine games, the La Jolla, California resident's best performance of the opening award period came on April 9 against the visiting Birmingham Barons. In a 20-5 Generals victory, the leadoff hitter went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, a homerun, three RBI and a walk.
