Kernels Home stand: July 24-29

The summer is heating up and so are your first-place Cedar Rapids Kernels as they return for a six game home stand. Here's a preview of what you can expect these next six dates:

July 24-26 vs. Peoria

The Kernels open a six game home stand with three games against the Peoria Chiefs, the Midwest League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, July 10th for Free Money Wednesday. The Kernels are passing out $1,000 to fans as they enter the gates with a top cash prize of $100. First pitch between the Kernels and Chiefs is set for 6:35 pm.

It's a Z 102.9 Thirsty Thursday when the Kernels host Peoria at 6:35 pm. Fans can get 12 oz. regular draft beer, bottled soda and water for $2, plus $1 off margaritas at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart. Gates open at 5:30 pm.

It's the start of our first ever Twins Weekend. The first 800 children, 12-under, receive a free Twins Youth Jersey thanks to the Minnesota Twins and the Kernels. Twins legend, Tony Oliva, will be at the game and sign autographs before the game until 6:10 pm. Target Field organist, Sue Nelson will be on hand and play during the game as well as TC Bear, the Twins Mascot. It's a 98.1 KHAK Kernels Friday Mug Club - buy a 16 oz. collectors mug for $6 and get it filled with soda or regular draft beer at the concession stands. Refills are just $3 and bring your mug back to every Friday Kernels home game for $3 refills. The Kernels will be collecting food donations outside the main gates for the Eastern Iowa Freedom From Hunger. Please drop off your donation as you enter the game. First pitch between the Kernels and Peoria is set for 6:35 pm.

July 27-29 vs. Clinton

The Kernels continue a six game home stand with three games against the Clinton LumberKings, the Midwest League affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

A BIG day and night is on tap for Saturday, July 27th. The first annual Twins Breakfast takes place at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center from 8 to 10 am. Twins legend Tony Oliva will be the featured speaker and guests include Target Field organist, Sue Nelson, Twins mascot TC Bear and Kernels players and coaches. Then, the Kernels take on Clinton at 6:35 pm on Cyclone Sports Night. The Kernels will wear special Iowa State jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction during the game, and any fan wearing Iowa State apparel to the game will get a discount on tickets. The Kernels will be collecting food donations outside the main gates for the Eastern Iowa Freedom From Hunger. Please drop off your donation as you enter the game. Then after the game stick around for a spectacular post-game FIREWORKS show. A fun afternoon of baseball is on tap when the Kernels take on Clinton at 2:05 pm on Sunday, July 28th. It's a 104.5 KDAT Run the Bases Sunday where fans can run the bases, play catch in the outfield and get autographs from the Kernels on the field after the game. Play Vacation Baseball Bingo, presented by Travel Advisors and the Radisson near Mall of America for a chance to win a trip to Minneapolis and see the Twins play. Papa Balloon will be here with face painting by Kennedy Wilson. It's also a Faith and Community Service Game as any fan that brings a faith flyer or church bulletin to the game receives a discount on tickets. Gates open at 1:00 pm with first pitch between the Kernels and LumberKings set for 2:05 pm.

The home stand wraps up on Monday, July 29th with Dollar Monday where regular hot dogs, small popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, chips and Cracker Jacks are each $1. Plus, get $1 taquitos at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Clinton is set for 6:35 pm.

Free Money Wednesday: Up to $1,000 will be given away at the main gates at every Wednesday home game with $100 as the top cash prize.

Tickets for all Kernel home games are available on-line at www.kernels.com; in person at the Kernels Ticket Office, or by calling 896-7560 during Ticket Office Hours. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
