Fort Worth Cats News Release
Terence Green and Jim Essian each hit home runs and Shad Williams threw seven innings of shutout baseball as Fort Worth topped Coastal Bend 6-2 on Thursday night at LaGrave Field.
The win improves the Cats' second-half record to 6-5 as they take two-of-three in the series from the Aviators.
Green's homer, a solo shot in the first inning, touched off the scoring for the Cats. It was the sixth long ball of the year for Green who finished the night 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.
In the fourth, Jim Essian belted his fourth home run of the season, a two-run clout to left to make it a 3-0 Fort Worth lead.
Williams (4-5), after allowing a second-inning single to Edwin Maldonado, retired the next 15 batters in order as he cruised through the middle innings en route to the victory. Williams ended up allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four and walking no one.
Lavelle Morgan (4-5) took the loss for the Aviators as he gave up six runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.
The Cats added to their lead in the sixth inning with a Ricky Gomez RBI double and two consecutive bases-loaded walks. Coastal Bend's only two runs came in the eight inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Carlos Adolfo and Marcus Knight.
The Cats travel to Edinburg on Friday for the first of three with the Roadrunners. Left hander Allen Davis will pitch for the Cats.
