Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Despite another multi-homer game from the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the Omaha Storm Chasers were able to come back and win 9-4 on Monday night at Werner Park.

Sky Sox starter Junior Guerra (0-2, 4.63) got off to a rough start in the first, allowing a home run to Cheslor Cuthbert that gave the Storm Chasers an early 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Sky Sox were able to tie the game off Omaha starter Jonathan Dziedzic (1-1, 1.64). Jake Elmore hit a one out single then Michael Reed drove him home with a line drive double down the right field line to tie the game at one. However, the Storm Chasers were able to retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a run scoring ground out.

The Sky Sox fought back to retake the lead in the fifth. After Ben Guez walked, Keon Broxton launched a deep home run to left field for his second home run in as many days to give the Sky Sox a 3-2 lead.

Dziedzic allowed three runs on six hits in five innings pitched while striking out five. He did not earn a decision.

After Omaha went to the bullpen and brought in Clayton Mortensen, the lead grew for the Sky Sox in the sixth on Andy Wilkins' first home run with the Sky Sox, a towering solo shot over the right field wall that doubled the Sky Sox lead to 4-2.

Mortensen pitched two innings and allowed the one run while striking out four to pick up the win.

In the bottom half, the Storm Chasers were able to chase Guerra from the game. After a pair of singles opened the inning, Tony Cruz homered to left to end Guerra's night and give Omaha the lead 5-4. Jim Miller came on in relief, but the Storm Chasers were able to score two runs off him to take a 7-4 lead to the seventh.

In five innings pitched, Guerra allowed five earned runs on six hits with four walks while striking out four.

Cruz homered again in the seventh, this time off Miller, to increase the Storm Chasers lead to 9-4.

Brooks Hall came out of the bullpen for the Sky Sox in the eighth and pitched a scoreless frame.

Omaha reliever Brian Duensing pitched the final two innings and held the Sky Sox without a run to finish off the 9-4 win for the Storm Chasers.

In the series finale tomorrow night, the Sky Sox will turn to southpaw Brent Suter (0-2, 7.80) while the Storm Chasers will start Brooks Pounders (2-0, 1.50). First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 pm MDT at Werner Park.
