Winston-Salem Dash News Release

KINSTON, NC - Ian Gac and Andy Wilkins each hit three-run home runs and Terry Doyle allowed just one run over seven innings to help the Dash beat the Indians 6-1 on Friday night at Grainger Stadium. Wilkins homered for the third straight game to help Doyle win his first decision in ten starts this season.

Winston-Salem (21-27) scored in the first inning for the second straight game. Jared Mitchell and Jose Martinez each singled with one out and Gac brought them both in with his league-leading 14th home run of the season, an opposite field shot to right off starter T.J. House. The blast ended Gac's 39-at bat homerless drought and gave him the league lead in RBI with 35.

The Dash doubled their lead in the fifth inning. With two outs and House (2-5) still pitching, Wilkins stroked his eighth home run of the season to right field to make it 6-0. It was the third home run in as many games for Wilkins, who also homered in the series finale at Lynchburg and in the Kinston opener.

Doyle (1-5) efficiently motored through the Indians (23-24) order, mixing all four of his pitches nicely to keep the K-Tribe off guard. The only run he allowed was in the fifth, when Chase Burnette singled home Jeremie Tice from second base with two outs to keep Kinston from a shutout.

After seven innings of one-run, five-hit ball, Doyle was replaced by Addison Reed to finish the ballgame. Reed allowed a leadoff single in the eighth but set down the final six men he faced, including the final five via strikeout. He used a 98-mph fastball and a tough slider to overmatch the Indians and drive Winston-Salem to the series-tying win.

Doyle got the win, his first of the season in ten starts. He struck out a season-high-tying eight batters, a number he first reached on opening night against the K-Tribe. House suffered the loss and is 0-4 in five starts against Winston over the last two seasons.

The Dash and Indians play the rubber game of the series on Saturday night. RHP Andre Rienzo (1-1, 2.59) pitches for Winston against RHP Toru Murata (0-2, 4.19). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the audio broadcast of the game begins at 6:15 on www.wsdash.com.

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on Monday for a special 4 p.m. Memorial Day game against the Potomac Nationals.
