Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - For the first time in their series with the Augusta GreenJackets, the Lexington Legends struck first and never looked back. The Legends picked up runs in three of the first four innings and held on through a couple late Augusta scoring threats to earn a 5-2 win over the GreenJackets on Tuesday night.
With the loss, the GreenJackets failed to win their third in a row and they saw their six-game home winning streak come to an end.
After the GreenJackets stranded a pair in the first, Lexington took the first lead in a game for the first time this series in the second. Mike Kvasnicka's leadoff double turned into a run when he scored on a groundout to put the Legends up 1-0. In the third, Lexington added another run on Chris Wallace's RBI triple to push the lead to two. The lead grew to 3-0 an inning later on Delino DeShields's two-out RBI hit.
Mike Kickham (1-4) was shaky through four innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four. The leadoff hitters Kickham allowed to reach in the second, third and fourth innings all came around to score for Lexington.
Adam Duvall got the GreenJackets on the board in the fifth with a two-out solo home run off Mike Foltynewicz to bring his league-leading total to 17. The blast cut the lead to 3-1 and it was Duvall's third home run in as many games - his second such stretch this season of three straight games with a home run.
The Legends tried to put the game away in the eighth off the Augusta bullpen by sending eight to the plate, but only coming away with two runs. Jordan Scott's two-out RBI hit stretched the lead to 4-1 while Enrique Hernandez hit a bases-loaded liner up the middle later in the inning to push the lead to four runs. Adam Bailey popped out to leave the bases full as stranded runners became a major theme for both sides as Augusta and Lexington both left ten men each aboard the basepaths.
Ryan Lollis doubled to open the eighth inning and scored from third on a one-out single by Joel Weeks to cut Lexington's lead to three. Ryan Scoma reached on an infield single, bringing Ehire Adrianza to the plate as the tying run. Adrianza hit into the second GreenJackets double play of the evening to end the rally in the eighth. Lexington's Jason Chowning induced the double play ball and then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his second save of the season.
Foltynewicz (3-6) won his third straight decision, but did so by earning his first win since May 23rd. He fired six innings of one-run ball, scattering eight hits while walking two.
The GreenJackets send Gaspar Santiago (1-2, 5.06) to the mound in an attempt to take three of four from the Legends. Lexington sends Ruben Alaniz (4-4, 5.23) to the hill as they try and salvage the series split. First pitch will come at 12:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 11:50 a.m., airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
