Round Rock Express News Release

The El Paso Diablos scored twice in the seventh to take the lead and then got several clutch outs from its bullpen to put away the Round Rock Express, 5-4, in front of 8,537 at The Dell Diamond. Round Rock and starter Ruddy Lugo were moving along smoothly until controversy ensued in the sixth inning. Up 1-0, Lugo dealt a pitch that Andy Green lifted into deep left field. Anthony Acevedo appeared to make a bobbling catch, but it was ruled that the ball hit the outfield wall, turning the apparent third out into a two-run inside the park home run.

The two teams exchanged leads until the seventh. El Paso broke through for two runs on a fielder's choice from Jesus Cota and then a double by Brian Barden to take a 5-3 lead.

The Express plated one run in the seventh on a single by Jon Tamargo, but were unable to score further against the trio of Jesus Silva, Mark Freed and Brian Bruney. Bruney was particularly dominant, striking out three of the four hitters he faced to notch his seventh save.

James Lira (0-3) got the loss in relief of Lugo. Casey Daigle (5-3) was the starter and winner after giving up only three runs in six innings.

The teams will finish their four-game series Monday at 7:05 p.m.
