OMAHA, Nebraska -- Tripp Cromer went 4-for-6, scoring three runs and driving in four to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs over the Omaha Royals, 14-5 on Sunday afternonn in Omaha.
Cromer hit a two-run triple in the top of the second inning and drove in two more with a double in the eighth. Royce Huffman was 3-for-4 with a home run and Alan Zinter and Jason Alfaro also homered for the Zephyrs, who have won 12 of their last 16 games. Jared Fernandez (4-2) pitched six innings to pick up the win. Jarrod Patterson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and Jed Hansen added a two-run shot for Omaha. Jimmy Osting (1-4) took the loss, giving up nine runs in six innings pitched for the Royals, who have dropped 11 of their last 13 games.
The Zephyrs and Royals continue the series on Monday with a doubleheader starting at 4:05 p.m. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs calling the action.
