Edmonton Capitals News Release
It was the perfect day of Capitals baseball. The sky was bright, sunny and blue as more than 3,500 school kids played hooky from school for the First Annual Edmonton Capitals Home Run Hooky game. Thanks to the 60-plus Edmonton companies who donated tickets to the schools, kids were able to attend for free.
Darryl Brinkley capped the experience by launching a two-out, walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to send everyone home happy as the Capitals (11-8) defeated the Yuma Scorpions (3-13), 7-5 to sweep the three-game series.
The Capitals found themselves behind for much of the afternoon, in a 5-2 hole against Scorpion starter Javier Ortiz, who pitched into the ninth inning. A five-run bottom of the ninth, punctuated with Brinkley's grand slam, stole the game for the home team.
The team will next head out on their longest road trip of the season that will include three games apiece against Orange County, Long Beach and Victoria over eleven days. The Caps next home action at TELUS Field will be Tuesday, June 23 against the Long Beach Armada.
The Edmonton Capitals and the Edmonton Humane Society announced today a partnership in the first annual Bark in the Park event at TELUS field. On Sunday, July 12th Caps fans are invited to bring their pooch with them to enjoy a day of baseball and doggy shenanigans. As the Capitals take on the Victoria Seals, dogs and their owners will enjoy friendly in-game competitions, Doggy displays and an onsite adoption centre for the Humane Society.
Tickets for owners are just $9 and $5 for dogs. All dog ticket proceeds go to the Edmonton Humane Society. From June 15th - July 12th, anyone who adopts a pet from the Humane Society will receive a free ticket to Bark in the Park.
Businesses or individuals interested in donating tickets to the pet adoptions, please call (780)-414-GOAL.
