Rockford IceHogs News Release

Winnipeg, MAN.- For the second time this season the Rockford IceHogs were successful in overcoming a third period deficit. On Thursday night in Manitoba, the IceHogs notched three third period goals to slip by the Moose 4-2 at the MTS Centre. With the win, Rockford improved to 5-1-1-0 on its nine game road swing.

Down 2-1 entering the final 20 minutes of regulation, Rockford winger Bryan Bickell tied the contest when he ripped his first goal of the season over the shoulder of Cory Schneider :36 into the final frame. The IceHogs later grabbed a lead that they wouldn't relinquish after center Jake Dowell stuffed in his second goal of the season at 2:24, sneaking the goal past Schneider giving Rockford a 3-2 advantage.

Rockford received an insurance as defenseman Dustin Byfuglien slapped home an empty-net, short-handed goal at 19:26 making it 4-2. The goal extended Byfuglien's team season-high point streak to five games.

Hogs rookie winger Jack Skille gave Rockford the 1-0 lead in the opening frame when he beat Schneider short-side for his second goal of the season a 2:32. Rockford had three chances on the power play to extend its lead, but went scoreless. Manitoba used that momentum from the penalty kill to notch a pair of tallies before the first break.

Winger Jozef Balej tied the contest at 1-1 at 10:11 with a pretty move around Hogs goalie Corey Crawford for his fourth goal of the season. Manitoba later capitalized on its first power-play chance of the night when Pierre-Cedric Labrie poked a rebound past Crawford at 13:52 for his third marker of the campaign.

Crawford picked up his second win of the young season with a 21 save performance. Schneider finished the night with 29 saves for the Moose. Rockford winger Niklas Hjalmarsson picked up his first career professional point when he assisted on Dowell's game-winning goal and Petri Kontiola chipped in two assists in the winning effort.
