
Hogs set to defend first place with six players on call up

Rockford, Ill.- The 2005-06 regular season is winding down and the Rockford IceHogs are in pursuit of the top spot in the United Hockey League. The IceHogs will host a pair of home games this weekend before finishing the weekend on the road at Quad City Sunday.
On Friday, the IceHogs and Danbury Trashers meet for the second and final time during the regular season with Danbury's only trip to Rockford at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to the game on Friday will pick up a Steve Martinson Bobblehead courtesy of ComEd. The bobblehead commemorates Martinson's 500th career coaching win. Doors on Friday open at 5:30 p.m.
Then on Saturday, the Fort Wayne Komets make their final visit of the regular season to Rockford. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and SpongeBob SquarePants will be in attendance courtesy of Insight Communications. Fans can meet and take pictures with one of Nickelodeon's most popular cartoon characters. Also Saturday, the IceHogs will host a charity hockey game between the Rockford Police and the Fort Wayne Police. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and the charity game begins at 4 p.m. All proceeds from the game will benefit families of fallen officers in the Rockford area.
The IceHogs will wrap up the weekend set at the MARK of the Quad Cities on Sunday at 1 p.m. Rockford will be without six skaters who are still skating in the American Hockey League. Defenseman Nathan Lutz, Corey Hessler and forwards Greg Barber and Chaz Johnson helped the Milwaukee Admirals clinch a playoff spot last night with a 4-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. Also, defenseman Bob Nardella scored the game-winner from winger Billy Tibbetts in the Chicago Wolves 5-2 win over the San Antonio Rampage on Wednesday.
BACON BITS RETURNS ON SUNDAY AT 9 P.M.
The IceHogs popular television show "Bacon Bits" returns for its sixth edition this Sunday, March 26 at 9 p.m. The show will air on FOX 39 and is 30 minutes in length. The magazine style show is hosted and produced by WTVO-17 Sports Director Scott Leber and Weekend Sports Anchor Vince Conway.
This week's segments include a look at rookie winger Chaz Johnson and his father Brian, who spent some time in the National Hockey League, a feature on IceHogs owner Dr. Kris Tumilowicz, the IceHogs on the bowling lanes at a recent charity Bowl-A-Thon at Forest Hills Lanes and the popular Fan Feature and Hogtied segments.
