Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that rookie defenseman Brett Angel has been reassigned to Elmira from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

Angel, who was acquired by the Jackals from the Muskegon Fury on 3/14/06 as part of the trade that sent goaltender Nick Boucher to Muskegon, has been out with a fractured hand, injured while on AHL Call-Up with Grand Rapids. The 6'6", 240 lbs defenseman played 4 games with Grand Rapids over two Call-Ups this season, with no points and 5 minutes of penalties. The 24-year old was selected by the Nashville Predators in the third round (72nd overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. In 46 games for the Fury, Angel had 6 assists and 196 penalty minutes, including 16 major penalties.

"We are very pleased that Brett Angel is now in Elmira and getting ready to play," said Jackals Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. "Hopefully he will be in the lineup next weekend and I am certain Jackal fans will love him. He is a big man at 6'6 and 245lbs and Brett not only skates well and plays the game with confidence but he does not shy away from the rough stuff. I know all the guys were very excited when he walked through the door this morning."

The Kingston, Ontario native played the past four years in the Canadian college ranks with Acadia University in Nova Scotia in the CIS conference. He also played five years in the OHL Major Junior 'A' with North Bay, London, Mississauga and Windsor.

Angel was flown into Elmira by the team late Wednesday night. He skated with the Jackals morning practice Thursday, but is not yet available to play in a game situation. The Jackals hope that Angel will be ready to play after this weekend's action.

The Jackals are back in action on Friday March 24th as they host the Adirondack Frostbite for a 7:05 pm face off at the First Arena. Elmira then hits the road for a two-game weekend series in Virginia against the Roanoke Valley Vipers.
